Found the camera!

Necessarily, I backtrack to tell you the roads on Prince Edward Island really are red clay.


My favorite place we stayed was a B&B in Riviere du Loup, Quebec- originally the first prime minister's summer home on the St. Lawrence River. (thanks Julia for the spelling help!)


The rooms were like being inside a museum except we could touch things.


My most recent favorite finished project is the over-the-stove microwave and range hood we hung yesterday.


And my blue lace pattern cotton is coming along nicely.

Insomnia

In four hours, I'm going to be leaving the apartment to get on my bus to work. I wish I were asleep. Since I'm not, and I can't find the camera, I'll give a written report of my work in progress. I'm knitting a dishcloth (or something) in eyelet pattern from the Vogue Stitchionary volume one. The yarn is a cobalt blue 100% cotton and I think it's laceweight, or close...the label suggests size 3 needles. I'm using size 4 because that's the smallest I had, and it's really coming along nicely.

And using size 4 (US) metal needles on the El tends to make people respect my personal space. I feel a little safer, too (you want to expose yourself and pee on my shoe, mister? meet the needles!). Get yours here (their photo above).

I'm loving this

No, I didn't finish unpacking (haha!) but I realized, I love my new schedule. Until school starts at the end of August, I work three days each week. It's awesome. I love my sweetie. And since he's making this possible by having a real job full-time, I should show my appreciation by unpacking some more. :) Tonight we might even start putting countertop down...and you know what's after that. A kitchen sink! Woot! Looking forward to not doing dishes in the bathtub.

And to all you moms out there- I have been reading your blogs. Your kids are gorgeous. I am in total awe of you for making time to blog along with everything else- thank you!! And I think the next time we have "when do we have babies" talk, I'm going to vote for a couple of years from now...

Updates, cool book giveaway

We're digging out. Today I'll make the second trip to the resale store donation center. It's amazing how much I can let go of when it's literally difficult to move around because of the amount of "stuff". I don't have any pictures because I can't find the camera, but just imagine moving another 1-bedroom apartment into my already comfortably full apartment and you can get a mental image! :) I'm itching to get some sewing done, though, and it's a great motivator to tackle unpacking and sorting tasks. We have an old treadle singer sewing machine and it's going to be moved into the bedroom (temporarily?) today. My sweetie bought belts for it so hopefully it'll be sewing merrily soon.

Does anyone use old children's books in crafts? Or want one? I have a book to send to you, if so- the 1970 edition, volume one, Children's Encyclopedia published by Encyclopedia Britannica. Just let me know in comments and I'll email you (please include your email info if posting through "noreply"). I found it at the Village Thrift about a year ago.

in the frog pond

On the way home from work today I ripped out the whole new pink scarf I've been working on all last month. It was from an orphan skein and there clearly wasn't enough to make a normal-length scarf. On to better things! Hmm, maybe a narrow lacey scarf? One advantage of the new job is the hour-long public transit commute, because I get on early enough to grab a seat on both the bus & the train and I can knit.

Sorry for gushing, but it seems impossible that three weeks ago we were packing up to leave this place (the view from the point where we got married).

We're back!

And since I start my new job in less than 12 hours, here are a few pics to tide you over.

The dress involves some funny stories- it kept expanding as I pressed the seams and even though I took it in twice, you can see it's still a bit loose in the bodice. Lesson learned about eyelet!
My sister and sister-in-law did my hair for the perfect Anne of Green Gables look I wanted!
We got married on a point overlooking the ocean. It was lovely. We were so fortunate to have found this spot (Quoddy House in Lubec)!

I have a few FP to share as well as some gorgeous pics from our honeymoon (Nova Scotia, PEI, New Brunswick, Quebec, and Ontario), but that will come later.
