Craft fair cards- done!

I am a bit bored with stamping cards. Stamping is fine, making cards with extra card stock and nifty things like that- I'm bored with that. This is the pile of cards I have for the fair on Saturday. I am bringing my vintage reliable colored pencils with me, so I can add color if the fair is slow...

To qualify vintage colored pencils, they are from Rich's and cost $3.99 for a 24-color package. I think my mom & dad must have bought them for me. Or that was some early birthday money purchase.

My favorite cards are the '50s women. I have two packs of these cards, and, well, if they don't sell I'll be okay with that. *grin* I love these women.

Other craft fair updates- I have two children's aprons finished and they are SO CUTE. Unfortunately they are on my boyfriend's bed so I don't have a picture. And I'm making an adult apron with Heather Ross' gnome print. This is fun! I'm vaguely worried if there should be a flock of people come to the show and buy stuff...but I'll have K with her gorgeous jewelry to bail me out if I should sell out of the aprons. *grin* I plan to price my favorites higher.

I'm not such a fan of the free form top, but I love the print. I can always wear it with a sweater, or style it up with funny poses:


The craft fair work goes on... I am table 4 if anyone is looking for me. *grin* Considering I was a "late entry", I'm going to be one of the stars of the show at this rate. 25% of the show sound pretty good, huh?

Glitzy gift wraps, big and little bags, and aprons (in progress below). I'm a little nervous that no one will come at all to this fair (I'm not sure how much advertising they've done) so I'm trying to make stuff that I can unload on unsuspecting friends, er, give as gifts.

Home again, for now

The trip to San Francisco was great. I was so excited after meeting with the midwifery program director that I took some pictures of my maybe-next place to work. Isn't this cool?! SFGH does the city and county public health, including the locked units. I am very excited. It was fun to be in a hospital again.


Now I am busily working on getting things ready for the 10/6/07 Craft Fair hosted by the Luther North Booster Club, at Luther North High School (9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 6 at 5700 W. Berteau Ave., Chicago). My friend K and I are splitting a table- me, bags and cards; she, jewelery. Swing by to say hi and I'll be grateful forever (and might even have a little something for blog-friends!).

So...after turning it around so all the panels face the same way, I lined the bag and here it is. Note the fun extra pocket I put in the lining!


It will be used as a hostess guest for our friends we are staying with this weekend- off to San Francisco to check out the midwifery program! I hope things go the way they are meant to in the interview...I'll keep you posted.

Sewing setbacks

I've been working on a cute linen blouse. Chicago went from a low of 38F (yes, the night we had Ravinia tickets to EmmyLou Harris- it was chilly!) to 80F during the days this week. I was really hoping to finish the blouse to wear tomorrow at work. Unfortunately, I made three right sleeves (one intentionally, two trying to make a left sleeve) before I figured out what I was doing wrong and so I just barely got the sleeves set in.

Other project- the bag- got stalled Tuesday night when I spilled a can of diet coke on the ironing board. Just goes to show, sewing and drinking don't mix. *grin*

Sewing more...already!

Technically not sewing, but I cut out my skirt pattern from the Sew-U book from Built by Wendy, and then I cut out my nightgown to be made from this striped knit fabric. Now, alas, I am trying to do real work...work that supports my hobbies!

Buy less, sew more

Mandy is on a yarn diet. I joined her, not in least because at the yarn swap most of the yarn I brought home was hers! Now I have a pile of knitting waiting for me... Initially she thought I was on a fabric diet, and although I considered it, I'm not. I'm just exercising more (sewing) and eating (buying fabric) less.

In other news, I fell walking home from Ravinia Friday night. Dar Williams was worth it.

Does anyone else, when faced with a pile of work to do, find laundry to be done and catch up on emails and reading blogs and oh, just about anything else? Because I took the weekend off by accident- went to JoAnn's and bought an outrageous amount of notions and fabric on sale, hung out with my girls a lot, and then my best boy came home Sunday night and we just hung out and rode bikes and basically played all day Monday...now I have all the work I was going to do before he got home still to do. It's vexing. That's obviously why I'm posting.

But I found something really cool- the flamingo bag works as a sewing machine tote! My spare machine has been intended for the boy's place ever since I got it, but I finally brought it over this weekend.


And I have promised myself that once I get half my work done, I can cut out my next skirt- a simple a-line from gray sheeting material. Durable, basic, and something I can wear to work and bike riding with equal ease.
