These two slippers do not look like each other. That's what happens when you don't split the yarn evenly between two projects. Lesson learned (maybe).


Next up: felting!

Felted slippers, pre-felting

I started with the pattern from _Knit Two Together_ but quickly realized 3 balls of Rowan biggy print was not going to last long enough (that's more than one ball (100g/33m) in the sole alone).


My next challenge is to create another monster slipper that looks vaguely like this one!

Short row wonders

Tonight I learned about short rows. These booties are from the pattern by Knit Girl in Norway (Ravelry link), and she says these stay on her baby's feet. That's good for the giftees, but I'm more interested in the really cool way short rows make the booties all in one piece- just a back center seam to finish!


Learning to knit is really fun, and there's so much to explore.

Stripes for real

This is the most exact estimation of how much yarn I had, ever...actually I thought I'd run out. That is less than 1cm left for the join.


I finished the first ball of Malabrigo (mental note- I will not have enough, must order some more) with this stripe. Note to my sweetie: I really DO need more yarn! Just when I declared it impossible to ever need yarn again. No wait, I have some other blue Malabrigo in my stash...anyway. For now, look at this.


Not the nicest join in the world, but after I crochet an edging it will be welded solid. :) And now that I've set a personal record of staying up late to knit (oh and yes, I do work tomorrow, and have a 2 hour meeting in the evening), I'm off to bed. I see coffee in my future. Lots and lots of coffee.

Stripes!

Well, actually, just stripe for now. I am make a baby blanket with Malabrigo worsted. The first stripe is almost done! I decided to go for a plain old garter stitch striped blanket. It's all about speed right now. Fortunately, it has been cool the past couple of evenings so I've gotten lots of knitting done without feeling the heat of knitting a wool blanket in July. :)

A baby sneaks up on me

Arriving Labor Day, our friends E & C are having their first baby. They got married a couple of months after we did. This is great news, but...I only have two months to come up with a cool baby gift. To make it worse, C is a knitter and will definitely appreciate a handmade gift, but also know what is a "design element" and what is a mistake! *grin*


I've started a pair of booties with Debbie Bliss Cashmerino. I'm thinking maybe a baby blanket (quilt) to go with them...

We'd also like to give a practical present. They aren't registered anywhere yet, but I'm trying to get ideas for what was an unexpected but useful present. Anyone?
